Hotdesk VS Dedicated Desk - Which One Fits Your Work Style?
More people than ever are seeking flexibility, community, and inspiring spaces to get their best work done. At the heart of this shift sits a simple but important choice: do you Hotdesk, or commit to a Dedicated Desk?
What is Hotdesking?
Hotdesking is a flexible way of working where people don’t have a fixed desk in a workspace.
Instead, they can choose any available spot when they arrive. It’s popular in shared workspaces as it gives freedom, variety, and a chance to meet and talk to different people each day.
Hotdesks memberships can be best for people that thrive on variety. This could be freelancers, creatives or entrepreneurs who are in need of a fresh perspective.
Flexible desk space gives you the flexibility to work where you want, when you want, depending on your mood or energy levels. It also provides unlimited networking opportunities. Sit somewhere new, meet someone new. Moving around a shared desk space or building can also help to spark creativity, perfect for those seeking daily inspiration. Renting a Hotdesk is usually cheaper than a Dedicated Desk, so it can be great for those just starting out.
What is a Dedicated Desk?
A dedicated desk is your own reserved workspace in a shared office or co-working space.
Unlike Hotdesking, it’s always yours, meaning you can leave your setup as you like, add personal touches, and know it’ll be waiting for you every day. It is sometimes located in a separate room full of other Dedicated Desk users, meaning it can give that private office feel (like ours!).
Dedicated Desk’s can be better for people who prefer a bit of a routine or have routine-heavy work, it can be great for small teams who need to collaborate closely, or those who like a base to call their own.
Dedicated Desk’s can provide that consistency that is sometimes needed, as its your space, your set up, every time. This also means you can personalise it however you like with things that spark productivity. Bring your monitor, notebooks, plants or a picture of loved ones. Having a desk to call your own means you have security to leave things at your desk without packing up each day. Here at WERKS, our Dedicated Desk user’s have their own key and FOB for the building so they can access their dedicated workspace 24/7. Dedicated Desks can allow for deeper focus, meaning you can snap into work mode quicker without distractions.
A Dedicated Desk often costs more, but the stability and personalisation can make it worthwhile for people who want that sense of ownership. Our Dedicated Desks are capped at £230/per month, providing those private office benefits without the price tag!
Which one is right for you?
Knowing the small but meaningful differences of Hotdesks and Dedicated Desks can help make the decision for you, depending on your working style.
If you’re after flexibility, variety, and a built-in way to meet people, Hotdesking is your winner.
If you crave consistency, focus and the comfort of that home away from home base, a Dedicated Desk will feel like the right fit.
The beauty of co-working? You don’t have to choose forever. Many people start with Hotdesking, then move to a Dedicated Desk as their work grows.
At WERKS, we offer both Hotdesking and Dedicated Desk options across our Brighton, Hove, and Lewes spaces. Whether you want flexibility or a home base, there’s a spot waiting for you. Head to our ‘Services’ page to book a hotdesk and find out more about our desk hire options.
