The Werks Group operate high quality workspace with over 100,000 sq ft of space within 9 buildings, so we are particularly concerned that our environmental impact should be as low as possible. Uniquely among workspace providers in Brighton & Hove we have been investing steadily over the last 5 years in retro-fitting environmental sustainability and energy savings to all our buildings through support from Brighton and Hove Energy Services Cooperative (BHESCO).

1 – The Werks Group is committed to sound environmental practice and to safeguarding the local environment in partnership with the whole community. We recognise our responsibility for the environment and will ensure compliance with all relevant current and future legislation. Where apropriate, we will also endeavour to be compliant with appropriate codes of practice.

2 – By adopting environmental principles, we publicly affirm our belief that we have a direct responsibility for the environment. We will carry out our activities as responsible guardians of our environment and strive to deliver services in a manner that leaves the Earth healthy and safe.

We are committed to minimising the environmental impact of our operations, and continue to operate side by side with our neighbours and stakeholders. In particular, we will achieve this through our commitment to:

2.1 – reducing the amount of waste produced, recycle where possible and encourage others to do likewise; Our target is zero waste.

2.2 – to specifically monitor and minimise our water use and effluent production and support the Safe Disposal of Waste.

2.3 – to review and enforce our sustainable procurement policy to align with good practice. We will sustain the use of renewable natural resources and will conserve non-renewable resources through efficient use and careful planning.

2.4 – to include environmental standards in all contracts and service level agreements. Within the terms of the law, we will make provision to ensure that contractors working on the company’s behalf apply environmental standards equivalent to the company’s own.

2.5 – to minimise noise from our sites.

2.6 – to work closely with environmental advisors and regulators to improve our overall environmental credentials and ensure the ongoing conservation of sensitive ecosystems for which we are responsible.

2.7 – Through wise use of energy we will make every effort to use environmentally safe and sustainable energy sources. We will invest in and promote the benefits of improved energy efficiency in our buildings.

2.8 – to minimise the use of harmful products such as plastics, toxic materials and other environmentally harmful matter.

2.9 – We will conduct and make public a periodic self-evaluation of our progress in implementing these principles and in complying with applicable laws and regulations.

2.10 – We will commit the management and resources necessary to implement these principles.

2.11 – We will commit to Staff Training to ensure that our staff understand and share our values and principles

3 –  We recognise this to be a long-term commitment to updating our practices continually in light of advances in technology and new understandings. To date we have invested in solar power, sustainable heating systems and LED lighting. We see improvement as continuous and the Werks Group we will continuously monitor our practices to ensure they reflect our values and principles.
